Why do I need to attend events?
Meeting your CPD requirements is an essential part of your recertification programme, to be able to practice as an optometrist or dispensing optician with ODOB. To do that, you’ll need to earn CPD credits at accredited events (or activities).
How the CPD activities listing works
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) describes learning activities practitioners engage in to develop and enhance their practice.
CPD activities include conferences (which can take place over multiple days and include multiple presentations), webinars, or courses focusing on a particular topic or topics. Some CPD providers may offer free activities, but others may charge.
Some CPD activities may occur on a once-off basis. Others may take place on multiple occasions.
Typically, the Board will accredit CPD activities for up to two years. Providers may apply for reaccreditation at the end of this period.
Some CPD activity providers publish their activities on the Board’s “Events Page”. Others choose not to.
If an activity is one which will occur on multiple occasions, the dates on which the activity is scheduled to occur may not show in the list of activities. However, the period during which the activity has been accredited will be displayed.
There may be CPD activities that are not listed, but where it is possible to earn CPD points. However, it is necessary to ensure these activities have a Board “event number” as well as a credit value and type.
If a CPD activity is not listed, a practitioner can apply to have the activity accredited or may ask the provider of the activity to apply for accreditation.
